A false-color map is used to identify the areas with textural roughness, where red and yellow colours represent depressed areas, and blue and purple colours represent elevated areas.
Roughness is quantified by the vertical deviations of a real surface from its ideal form. If these deviations are large, the surface is rough; if they are small the surface is smooth.
Wrinkles appear as a consequence of thinner, less hydrated, and less elastic skin.
With age the natural process of wrinkling begins, as a result of loss of skin thickness and density, hydration and elasticity.
